Sverre Nypan attended Manchester City’s game against Chelsea on Saturday, but Arsenal remain in the race for the youngster at this stage.
Arsenal hopes of signing young talent Sverre Nypan of Rosenborg seemingly took a hit on Saturday, as the player was pictured (above) in attendance at the Etihad Stadium for Manchester City’s game against Chelsea.
Fabrizio Romano confirms that Nypan arrived in Manchester on Friday for the visit, with City presenting a project that includes an initial loan move to Girona.
But it’s not a done deal, and Romano added that Arsenal and one other club are still in the race. There’s been no final decision yet.
A move to City and a loan to Girona might appeal to the player, though there’s some doubt over whether it would actually be allowed.
City and Girona have the same owners, and both clubs are competing in the Champions League, so moves between the two will come under a lot of scrutiny and may be prevented.
Arsenal have the advantage that they’re planning to use Nypan in their first team immediately, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
Ornstein reports that Arsenal are working on a deal to sign Nypan, and talks are advancing. Whilst Nypan is viewed as a great future prospect, the Gunners would be signing him to join up with the senior squad at once.
The midfielder can play as an eight or a 10, so he’d provide Arsenal with a strong attacking midfield option.
Arsenal have Martin Odegaard for help convincing Nypan, though City have Erling Haaland. Nypan reportedly sat in Haaland’s box on Saturday, and he was pictured alongside the player’s agent.
It’s hard to call the race at this stage, but Arsenal are likely to push for a resolution before the transfer deadline on Monday, February 3rd.
