Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham has been plunged into doubt following recent results
Despite starting his tenure at Tottenham Hotspur, Ange Postecoglou now finds himself at the centre of growing speculation.
Currently languishing at a lowly 15th in the table, the North London outfit are in genuine danger of being dragged into a battle for Premier League survival. They have lost six of their last seven Premier League games—including four successive defeats to Leicester City, Everton, Arsenal and Newcastle United.
No other manager under Daniel Levy’s reign has afforded the luxury of enduring such an extended run of poor form as Ange Postecoglou, whose second season at White Hart Lane has been marked by injury problems, inconsistency and frustration. He has been offered some leeway due to the injury crisis, with the defensive and attacking units most hit.
Now, Football London journalist Alasdair Gold has given a fresh update on speculation surrounding Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham. He has stated that the club’s hierarchy will continue to back the Greek-Australian head coach, with the injury crisis giving Postecoglou a pardon in terms of keeping his job at N17.
“For now at least, Spurs are sticking with Postecoglou amid the injury crisis his squad is engulfed in and will try to sign at least one player for him in the week ahead to ease that, even if that should have happened long ago, Alasdair Gold wrote for Football London.
“Postecoglou is not blameless in all of this. He is well aware that results under his leadership have not been anywhere near good enough this season, particularly when he had the full squad available at the start of the campaign and the defending, even now from a makeshift backline, has not been good enough.
“Postecoglou has needed senior help and he hasn’t got it. Instead, some fingers outside the club are pointing at him for injuries while those same people nod towards how Bournemouth and Andoni Iraola for instance are doing on the south coast with their own large number of injuries.”
Postecoglou is under immense pressure after consecutive losses against relegation-threatened teams Everton and Leicester City. His team are in a dire situation, and under such circumstances, Levy would have already pulled the plug on the 59-year-old and lined up a replacement.
-> Erik ten Hag emerges as a candidate to replace Big Ange at Tottenham
Big Ange needs to be cut some slack for the Lilywhites’ awful run of form as he cannot be faulted for the amount of injuries his players have suffered this season. However, that is not to say that the Australian is exempt from criticism as his stubbornness to persist with the same playing style and system despite the non-availability of players is increasingly becoming frustrating within the fanbase.

The ex-Celtic boss, is, therefore, running out of time and excuses to turn things around in North London and keep his job. That being said, Levy and Co. are the ones to be blamed due to their failure to appropriately back our gaffer, despite Big Ange going on record asking for some help in the transfer market to lift his squad’s spirits.
