Paris Saint-Germain have built strong ties with Portugal in recent years, largely due to sporting advisor Luis Campos, who has brought in players like Vitinha, João Neves, and Gonçalo Ramos.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Manchester United were looking to outmaneuver PSG in the race for one of Portugal’s top young talents.
According to Foot Mercato, PSG, Manchester City, and United are all tracking 17-year-old Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon.
United’s interest is especially noteworthy, as new manager Ruben Amorim previously coached Sporting and is eager to reunite with Quenda. The Athletic recently reported that Amorim has pushed United to make a serious move for the teenager this summer.
Quenda is expected to cost around €40 million (£33.4 million), and United’s new leadership seems determined to win the battle against PSG for the highly rated prospect. Still, Quenda has an £83 million release clause in his contract, which Sporting would likely want for the player.
Chelsea make swoop for Geovany Quenda
Fabrizio Romano reported Friday that Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign Quenda and edging out the competition for the teenager.
The young talent has already completed his medical after a secret trip and is set to join the club in 2026. Chelsea finalized the deal with Sporting, and Quenda has given his approval to the club’s project and Enzo Maresca’s plans.

Romano didn’t reveal the transfer fee, but it will be interesting to see if the Blues paid the release clause for the player or if another fee was paid for him.
