Manchester City target Viktor Gyokeres says he has not spoken to anyone about his future plans.
It is widely believed that the Swedish international will leave his current club Sporting Lisbon at the end of the season but the striker insists he is concentrating on his football:
“No, nobody has spoken to me. It’s not something I think about or that is in my mind. Rumours, once more. My focus is on being here.”
Gyokeres is expected to be in high demand when the campaign is over, having scored an incredible 40 goals, as well as contributing 10 assists, in 41 appearances this season.
City are among his preferred destinations
Reports this week have claimed that Gyokeres is prioritising a move back to English football this summer.
Tabloid A BOLA claims that the 26-year-old “prefers” a transfer to Manchester City, Arsenal or Liverpool.
Manchester United have also been mentioned as potential suitors, with Gyokeres tipped to link up with his former manager Ruben Amorim, but it appears that the Red Devils are not among the frontrunners for the player’s signature.
How much will Gyokeres cost?
The forward does have a €100m (£84m) release clause in his contract but it is widely believed that Sporting will accept a fee of around €70m (£59m). Considering the amount of goals that he is scoring, that seems to be a very reasonable fee.
However, it is debatable whether the Cityzens need another striker. Erling Haaland signed a new nine-and-a-half-year contract back in January and the club then proceeded to spend £63.2m on Omar Marmoush.
For that reason, it appears unlikely that Gyokeres would be a top target for Pep Guardiola’s side. Reinforcing the defence and midfield are expected to take precedence.
