Tottenham are ready to break the bank for Sporting CP superstar Viktor Gyokeres
Tottenham Hotspur have been vying for a move for a new striker for the third successive window, as Daniel Levy looks to hand Ange Postecoglou some qualitative depth up top.
Spurs broke their club transfer record last summer to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth. He was expected to do well and Solanke has done that, but the England international has not got a sufficient back-up with Richarlison enduring another injury-ravaged campaign.
The Lilywhites acquired Mathys Tel’s services on loan from Bayern Munich during the mid-season trading period. Ange Postecoglou has used Tel more centrally than out wide, and the teenage Frenchman has not managed to deliver the goods as expected. Thus, the Hotspur Way chiefs are planning to bring in a new centre-forward in the summer.
According to a report from Spanish news outlet Fichajes, Tottenham are eyeing an audacious move for Sporting CP hitman Viktor Gyokeres. The Spurs chiefs view him as an ideal candidate to fill the void left by Harry Kane, who departed N17 for Bayern Munich in 2023.
Viktor Gyokeres has established himself as one of the highly-coveted forwards with his clinical finishing and all-round abilities as a forward. The Sweden international has been a revelation since his £17 million transfer from Coventry City to Sporting CP, smashing an impressive 43 goals and 15 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions and helping his side win the league title last season.
The 26-year-old has backed it up with 40 goals and 10 assists in 41 games already this campaign, proving that he is not a ‘one-season wonder’. After two prolific seasons in Portugal, Gyokeres commands high value and it is no surprise that he has been linked with some European bigwigs.
The aforementioned report adds Tottenham are willing to make a significant investment to sign Gyokeres this summer. However, they will face stiff competition from multiple clubs across Europe, including Manchester United.

The Stockholm-born star has had a strong relationship with Ruben Amorim since their days together at Sporting CP, which could give Man United an advantage to land him. Like Spurs, though, the Red Devils have underperformed this season and their only route towards achieving Champions League qualification realistically lies in winning the Europa League in May.
While a goalscoring powerhouse like Gyokeres would undoubtedly be a great addition to Spurs’ forward ranks, breaking the bank for another striker after only signing Solanke last year does not seem feasible during the forthcoming transfer window, especially when we have the defensive unit that needs restructuring.

The Sporting superstar has the talent and ability to fill the void left by Kane at White Hart Lane, and if Levy and Co. are ready to splash the cash, Ange’s Tottenham must at least win the Europa League trophy to give themselves a chance of landing him ahead of their rivals.
