The striker has decided to play Guinea instead of Portugal and remains content with the decision he’s made
Beto has no regrets over a big decision he made earlier this season. The Everton striker made the call to represent Guinea, having previously been keen to wait to play for Portugal.
In October, the forward finally made the call to play for Guinea, the nation where his parents are from. Beto was born in Lisbon.
After a challenging start to life at Everton, the striker has enjoyed a purple patch recently and was nominated for the February player of the month in the Premier League. The 27-year-old has not scored in his last three matches, but grabbed five goals in five games beforehand.

The man himself was asked whether his eye-catching form has led to any regrets over his international decision, as his recent upturn could have led to interest from Portugal. But as reported by Record (h/t Sport Witness), the striker is very content with his choice.
“I’m very, very, very happy to be playing for Guinea,” he said. “There are always those questions like ‘you could play for Portugal these days’. I know I could, but I feel like I can make a difference in Guinea. In the games we play here in the Premier League, just having children and families carrying Guinea-Bissau flags… For me, I’ve won.
“I’ve managed to get the country’s name into the Premier League. For me, that’s a good thing. And there, I can help a lot of people and inspire a lot of people.
“It was the best choice I’ve made in recent years, and I don’t think I would go back. If I could change it, unfortunately for a lot of people, I wouldn’t.”
Beto has made four appearances for Guinea and scored his first goal for them against Mozambique in November.
The striker has been called up for the current squad for the World Cup qualifiers too. They will face Sierra Leone in Liberia before hosting Burkina Faso.
