Tottenham face an upward battle to land Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen in the summer following Real Madrid’s entry into the race
Tottenham Hotspur’s season has largely been disrupted by an unprecedented injury crisis, though with the team alive in the Europa League and still fighting to finish the Premier League season as strongly as possible, it was imperative that the squad got strengthened during the winter transfer window.
Spurs added Antonin Kinsky, Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel to their roster in January. Now, the Hotspur Way chiefs have started planning for the summer transfer window after an underwhelming season, seemingly setting their sights on another central defender.
Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen. They are set to aggressively push for his signature in the summer as part of building their long-term strategy at White Hart Lane.
Dean Huijsen has quickly established himself as one of the best young defenders in the Premier League since moving to Bournemouth from Juventus last summer. With his composure on the ball, reading of the game, physicality, aggressiveness and threat from set-pieces, he has won plenty of admirers across the Premier League and Europe.
The teenager has played a key role in helping the Cherries challenge for a European spot this season. He has formed a strong partnership with Illia Zabarnyi in central defence, netting two goals in 23 league appearances.
Such has been his rise in stature that Dean Huijsen received his first call-up to the Spanish senior side earlier this month—albeit as a cover for the injured Inigo Martinez. He made his Spanish senior team debut on Thursday, replacing the injured Pau Cubarsi in the first half of the 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in a UEFA Nations League fixture.
However, according to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Real Madrid have emerged as frontrunners to sign Huijsen, who is widely expected to leave Bournemouth after just one season. The centre-back has never hidden his ‘desire to play in La Liga’, having previously described Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos as his idol.

With his stock rising and several clubs circling, Bournemouth’s chances of holding onto the Amsterdam-born talent appear slim despite him being protected by a £50 million release clause in his contract. Real Madrid’s interest in signing the freshly-capped Spanish international during the summer transfer window is a seismic blow for Tottenham.

A technically strong defender with a mature head on young shoulders, Huijsen fits the profile of signings Spurs have made under Ange Postecoglou. Given the Lilywhites need more options at the back, especially after Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s injury-ravaged campaigns, combined with Radu Dragusin’s ACL rupture and Ben Davies becoming a free agent at the end of June, the Cherries man would be a perfect acquisition.
However, now with Madrid entering the race and the player seemingly interested in a move to La Liga, Tottenham may well have to settle for other targets.
