Tottenham have reignited their interest in Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah
Tottenham Hotspur have adopted a strategy that focuses on investing in youth and unlocking their potential. Daniel Levy, known for identifying emerging talents and developing them into standout performers, wants to compound on the transfer strategy this summer as well.
Apart from signing highly-regarded prospects, Spurs also need to back that plan up with some experienced performers who can come in and immediately make an impact on the team. And it looks like the Lilywhites could go for some seasoned campaigners as well when the transfer window reopens in June.
According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham and Liverpool have recently approached Jonathan Tah and his representatives to gather information about a possible summer transfer. Barcelona are currently the frontrunners for the Bayer Leverkusen defender’s signature as they view him as an ideal option to bolster their backline.
Tottenham were heavily linked with Jonathan Tah throughout 2024 and during the past January transfer window, and the 29-year-old has already confirmed that he won’t be renewing his contract with Bayer Leverkusen, so he is only three months away from becoming a free agent. Thus, the Germany international could indeed be up for grabs ahead of next season.
A seasoned-campaigner with 393 appearances for Leverkusen, Tah is supremely composed in playing out from the back and initiating attacks. He is adept at progressing the ball from deeper areas and recycling possession. The German played a key role in helping Xabi Alonso’s side win the Bundesliga title, DFB-Pokal and the DFL-Supercup last term, enhancing his stock further across the continent.
Another significant positive about the Hamburg-born talent is his injury record. In the last five seasons, he has missed only three games for Leverkusen which is an extremely impressive record. The centre-back is certainly someone who could do a great job at the back for Spurs, whose defensive unit have been ravaged by injury problems this season.

If Cristian Romero does not agree on a new contract in the next three months and Tottenham subsequently end up selling him amid Real Madrid interest, Tah would be a smart potential replacement for the Argentine. At 29, Tah cannot be viewed as a long-term solution to the North London side’s defensive conundrum but he will bring leadership and a winning mentality which Ange Postecoglou’s squad has been lacking.
