Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has arrived in Rio de Janeiro amid links with a move to Flamengo, though he insists he’s just on holiday.
Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, leading to plenty of speculation about his next steps as a player.
The Italy international could still extend his deal to remain in north London, but reports have strongly linked him with a free-transfer move to Flamengo.
So it was noteworthy to see Jorginho arriving in Rio on Wednesday, home of Flamengo, with YouTuber Paparazzo Rubro-Negro catching the player on camera.
The 33-year-old didn’t rule out meeting with Flamengo technical director Jose Boto when asked, but he did insist that he came to Rio on vacation.

Jorginho has the international break off, with Italy choosing not to call him up, so there was evidently time for a mini-holiday for the player. Whether he uses that holiday to agree terms with Flamengo remains to be seen.
If Jorginho is going to join Flamengo, he’ll want to do a deal soon. The club are playing in the Club World Cup this summer, so an early transfer would mean availability to feature in the tournament.

FIFA have a brief early transfer window between June 27th and July 3rd for clubs participating in the Club World Cup, though it’s unclear whether it would be an issue that Jorginho is technically still under contract at Arsenal until June 30th.
Flamengo would definitely be free to sign him, but possibly not on a free transfer unless Arsenal cancelled his contract a few days early.
