- Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa has spoken out against a move to Man United
- Costa has been linked with a summer swap to join the Premier League giant
- But labelled speculation over a possible deal to join United as ‘nothing concrete’
Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa has cooled talk linking him with a summer move to Manchester United, stressing that he ‘hopes to continue’ in Portugal.
Erik ten Hag’s side are rumoured to be leading the race for the 23-year-old’s signature, however, Costa has calmed speculation over his future.
United want to bring in a new goalkeeper after David de Gea’s struggles this season were highlighted by another disappointing showing in Saturday’s FA Cup final defeat against Manchester City.
Costa could be viewed by the transfer gurus at Old Trafford as De Gea’s long-term successor after an impressive season at Porto, but the shot-stopper isn’t bothered by any ongoing speculation.
Speaking to reporters, Costa downplayed a potential move away from Porto, stating: ‘That’s the internet. It is a happiness and an honour to play for my favourite club.

‘What they say is what they say, there is nothing concrete. I have a contract until 2027 and I hope to continue, let’s see.’
United are reportedly willing to pay the £65million release clause that would allow them to lure Costa to England as they identify potential options ahead of the transfer window opening.
Costa has enjoyed a stellar campaign at the Portuguese giants, keeping 16 clean sheets in the Liga Portugal and making 41 appearances across all competitions.
His impressive saves additionally helped Porto to victories over Atletico Madrid, Club Brugge, and Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.
A product of Porto’s academy, Costa has made 109 senior appearances for the club. He has won the Portuguese league title twice, the Taca de Portugal twice and the Taca da Liga once.
Costa has been capped by the Portugal national team on twelve occasions.

Meanwhile, De Gea’s position at the Red Devils remains uncertain as negotiations continue over a new deal that would see his wage drop if he wants to stay at the club.
Ten Hag fuelled talk over a new number one making their way to the club during the off-season after refusing to guarantee De Gea a starting role for next season.
The Dutchman explained: ‘I will not say he’ll always be my No.1 because in a club like Man United there must be competition in all positions.
‘You can’t do it with 11 players. It is impossible. You need double positions.’
