Man United are doing their best to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea this summer.
Manchester United are seemingly looking to add some extra quality into their midfield before the transfer window shuts in a few months’ time. Erik ten Hag has identified that area as a potential weakness at present. He’s looking to turn it into a strength.
Mason Mount links have been plentiful over the last week or so. The Englishman has a winding down contract at Chelsea, with United looking to capitalise on that situation.
The latest update in the ongoing saga comes from journalist Florian Plettenberg. He took to Twitter to share the latest.
According to him, United are ‘pushing a lot’ for the signing, as Ten Hag and the United bosses ‘definitely want’ to bring in Mount. To further add to that, everyone within the club are ‘convinced’ of the Englishman’s talents.
United will face competition from Liverpool for the acquisition of Mount, with the valuation of the player standing at £38-£43m (€45-50m).
Mount missed the end of the campaign for Chelsea through injury, though appeared to wave goodbye to the Stamford Bridge crowd during the final day of the season.
The Englishman now has a big decision to make about his future. It looks as though he will be deemed expendable by Chelsea, assuming their price valuation is matched.
Mount is a direct upgrade for United, assuming the signing can get done. The Englishman’s mobility, sheer work ethic and attacking skill adds something different to the table. In games like the Manchester derby, his tenacious style could be key to winning the midfield battle.
Although this will likely drag on for at least a few weeks yet, I do believe this move looks likely to happen.
