USA star Christian Pulisic should go to a club where he will be the ‘main man,’ according to former Manchester City defender Micah Richards.
The 24-year-old winger had a hugely difficult and disappointing season with Chelsea and it’s no secret that he’s set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
Richards believes Pulisic, who made the move from Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea for $72million in January 2019, must find a club where he will be the go-to guy.
‘He needs to go somewhere where he needs to be the main man,’ Richards said on a CBS Sports media call on Monday.
‘When he plays for the US he plays different, he feels like the main man. He’s a lot better than he shows and he needs to be more consistent.’

Ex-Man City defender Micah Richards believes Pulisic needs to be the ‘main man’ at a team
Pulisic’s time at the west London club has been hindered by injuries, unable to really nail down a regular place in the starting XI, and the most recent season was no different.
He netted just one goal and provided two assists in 30 appearances. He started just eight times in the Premier League as he fell out of favor.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher agreed with his fellow pundit and added that he should have departed Chelsea last summer.
‘He has to move on now. Twelve months ago was the perfect time,’ Carragher said.
‘For his own career it would be better if he could move on.’
Pulisic has been heavily linked with a move to Serie A and it appears Massimiliano Allegri’s side are the favorites to land Pulisic in a $25million deal, ESPN reported last week.
Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was recently appointed new Chelsea manager
Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Manchester United and Newcastle as well as Napoli, AC Milan and Galatasaray have all been touted as possible destinations for the player who has struggled to find consistency in England.
Pulisic is expected to be part of a mass summer exodus following Chelsea’s abysmal season and the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino as owner Todd Boehly’s fourth manager.
Pulisic was booed on to the pitch by Chelsea fans during their final game of the season last month.
He came off the substitutes’ bench with just minutes left, replacing Noni Madueke, but was jeered by some sections of the home support in the 1-1 tie with Newcastle.
It left Chelsea all the way down in 12th to bring the curtain down on their turbulent 2022-23 campaign – the first season under the ownership of Boehly.
