Dean Henderson is set to seal a transfer away from Man United in the not-too-distant future.
Changes are afoot at Manchester United. Erik ten Hag has adjusted the mentality and belief within that dressing room.
Slowly but surely, he’s turning the squad into one that fits his style, with players that buy into his belief. One man whose future remains up in the air is Dean Henderson.
The Englishman went on a scathing rant at the club last summer, as he left for Nottingham Forest on loan. David de Gea’s form seemed to somewhat open the door for Henderson to come back and prove his doubters wrong.
However, that does not seem to be the case. Journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the 26-year-old wants to leave United, while that exit should be secured ‘very soon’.
United have been in discussion with Nottingham forest for two or three weeks, with the recently promoted Premier League side set to sign Henderson on a permanent basis.
Check out what Fabrizio Romano had to say in full here:
“This is close. This is something which has been discussed for weeks, two to three weeks, discussion between Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, the agents of the player.” Romano is quoted as saying on The United Stand.
“The player wants to go. Manchester United want to accept that proposal. It is just a matter of time. I’m told its not done yet but should be very soon.”
Honestly, this feels like the best move for all involved. Let’s hope United can get a decent fee of at least £20m for a goalkeeper who does have potential to become one of the best in the country.
Perhaps a year or two ago, I was all for Henderson getting the starting job. However, as soon as he attacked the club, the chances of him being given another opportunity felt pretty slim. Ten Hag isn’t the type of manager who’ll stand for public criticism from any player.
Henderson is currently out injured, while expecting to have to undergo surgery again this summer. Let’s hope that doesn’t scupper this move away.
