Man United are weighing up a move to bring in Moises Caicedo from Brighton.
Manchester United Football Club need to continue to spend big this summer, as Erik ten Hag looks to return the glory days to Old Trafford.
The problem? There’s several gaps in the current squad. All of those need filling. Players will be sold in order to generate some funds, though United owners, whoever they may be, have to dig deep into their pockets.
One of the recent rumours comes from The Telegraph, who link Man United with a move to bring in Moises Caicedo.
The man from Ecuador has enjoyed another stunning season for Brighton, including putting in a colossal performance against United in the FA Cup semi-final. He really did give Casemiro the runaround, which is no easy task.
Anyway, their report claims United ‘plot’ a move to sign the 21-year-old midfielder, along with both Chelsea and Arsenal.
The problem? Brighton are set to demand ‘significantly’ more than £70m to let Caicedo leave during this window. To their credit, The Seagulls have proven themselves to be tough negotiators recently. You either pay up, or move on to other targets.
Right now, Chelsea feel like the favourites, as they can use Levi Colwill as a makeweight in the deal. He was excellent for Brighton on loan last season, before he moved back to Stamford Bridge.
If United are to sign one defensive-minded midfielder, it absolutely has to be Caicedo for my money. He’s perfect for that role in the modern-day game, while he’d still be cheaper than someone like Declan Rice, largely due to the English premium.
I do wonder whether United are prepared to spend such a large sum of money on a midfielder, particularly when other areas of the squad need working on too. However, I would be delighted if this move did happen.
