Man United remain on course to land the signature of Mason Mount this summer.
Mason Mount rumours are becoming more frequent as we enter into a crucial transfer window for Manchester United Football Club.
The Englishman looks pretty set to leave Chelsea over the next few months, assuming a potential buyer is willing to match their asking price. United appeared to be the early frontrunners. It seems as though that hasn’t changed.
Relevo journalist, Jorge Picon, has provided an update on Mount’s future. He says the player is ‘on track’ to join United this summer, with Mount set to play for the Red Devils next season.
The 20-time Premier League champions are indeed the favourites, after the 24-year-old ‘definitively rejected’ a move to Liverpool a few weeks ago. That does seem like genuine information, with Jurgen Klopp’s men moving to sign Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister since about that time.
As things stand, a deal is ‘not closed’. However, it does seem to be moving in the right direction.
Mount has one year left on his Chelsea deal, while reaching an agreement with the Stamford Bridge club is proving to be a struggle. It’s looking increasingly likely that he’ll be on the way out during this window.
Old Trafford presents an ideal opportunity, under a Ten Hag who is improving this side right now.
Although the Englishman’s price tag could be pretty hefty, I can see why United want to sign Mount now, rather than waiting until next summer. He’s the perfect stylistic fit for the way United want to perform, with Mount a direct upgrade on Christian Eriksen.
The quicker this deal is done, the more time United will have to move for other targets.
