Mason Mount has been named a high priority signing for Man United and Erik ten Hag.
Over the last couple of weeks, Man United have been heavily linked with the possibility of signing Mason Mount from Chelsea.
The Englishman has a year left on contract and is ready for another challenge, this time away from Stamford Bridge.
Manchester United identified the attacking midfielder as a potential addition pretty swiftly, looking to take advantage of the aforementioned contract situation.
Media outlet Give Me Sport have provided an update on Mount’s future, claiming the signing of the 24-year-old is a ‘high priority’ for Ten Hag during this window.
However, the Reds are ‘adamant’ that they will not overpay. Instead, showing discipline in a window where they have a restricted policy in place. As a result, United need to try and sign Mount for under £60m.
Honestly, £60m still feels like a lot for a player coming off a poor season with one year left on the contract. However, Chelsea do not want to lose their homegrown hero to a direct rival, which is where the extra money comes from.
I also understand why United and Ten Hag are pushing hard to make this move happen. Mount is stylistically perfect for this system. He brings energy, is an excellent presser, a defensive worker and good with the ball at feet.
My gut feeling is that this move gets done. At the end of the day, money talks. Chelsea will take what fee is available right now, rather than losing him for free next summer. The Stamford Bridge club are also in a position where they have to trim down the squad for Mauricio Pochettino, so United have to use that to their advantage.
