Newcastle United are reportedly set to make a bid for Wolfsburg midfielder Felix Nmecha as they ramp up preparations for their Champions League season.
The Magpies are looking to strengthen after their incredible campaign saw them finish fourth in the Premier League and earning them a place among Europe’s elite – with Harry Maguire also a rumoured target.
According to the Telegraph, Germany international Nmecha – who started his career at Manchester City – is one of Eddie Howe’s targets and the club are now said to be readying an offer.
Newcastle have been tracked the 22-year-old for several months, the report claims, after telling scouts to seek out value-for-money signings in the Bundesliga.
Howe is a fan of Nmecha’s energetic, box-to-box style and his impressive season – which saw him score three goals and lay on five assists from 29 Bundesliga appearances – was enough to make his shortlist.

If Newcastle want to take Nmecha off Wolfsburg’s hands, he is likely to cost around £15million.
The Magpies are not put off that price and see the deal as ‘relatively cheap’ amid Financial Fair Play concerns.
It says the club are still intending to splash out on two ‘elite players’ – with at least one more midfielder coming in – as the club continue plans to get the squad in shape for the Champions League.
Born in Hamburg, Nmecha joined Man City as a teenager in 2019 and made just one appearance – in the Carabao Cup in 2018 – before opting to leave the Etihad in 2021 in search of regular first team football.
He has made one appearance for the Germany national team – which came in March this year. Previously he had represented England at youth level, playing 10 times for the U18 side and four times for the U19s.
Nmecha is the younger brother of Lukas – who also started his career at Manchester City before joining Wolfsburg in the same year as Felix.
