Chelsea believe Man United will make an improved bid to sign Mason Mount next week.

The Red Devils are still up for sale, with bidders negotiating to finalise a deal, while on the pitch, Erik ten Hag is looking to improve the playing squad.
Mason Mount has been heavily linked with a Red Devils switch over the last couple of weeks. The Englishman only has a year left on his Chelsea deal, with United looking to sign him for a cut-price fee. An initial bid of £40m has already been rejected.
However, according to The Times (subscription required), United are set to go again. Chelsea ‘are expecting’ an improved bid from Man United, for the 24-year-old, next week.
Again, the £40m fee is mentioned, though that offer was immediately turned down by the Stamford Bridge club. Despite his contract situation, Chelsea are holding out for £70m. Plus add-ons.
That said, United are confident they can negotiate that fee down to a lower price.
It’s now a game of cat and mouse. Chelsea will eek as much money out of United as possible, while the Red Devils will continually up their offer slowly, in order to minimise how much they’re paying. Both teams will have that sweet spot marked down in their respective notepads.
From a United standpoint, I’d expect to tread carefully. At the end of the day, Mount will be available for free next summer, saving the club a huge amount of money. If they can get some sort of gentlemen’s agreement in place, that could well be the way to play it.
