Man United admire Southampton midfielder, Romeo Lavia, though no move has been made as of yet.
Erik ten Hag is trawling the globe looking for players that can improve this Manchester United squad. Several names have been linked with an Old Trafford switch already. Many more will follow.
Among many positions that need work is central midfield. Mason Mount seems to be atop the wishlist in that regard, with United looking for more mobility and pressing ability.
The club could also look to add another body in the defensive midfield position. Although the Reds are not the frontrunners, Romeo Lavia is being linked with United.
It’s Fabrizio Romano with the claim. He states that United ‘appreciate’ the emerging midfielder, though they’re ‘still not advancing’ to sign the player.
As things stand, it’s Arsenal who are leading the charge. Manchester City could also make a move to re-sign Lavia. They have a buy-back clause in his contract.
Lavia was super impressive last season. His ability to break up the play, then get Southampton moving in the right direction, was impressive.
When you consider that he’s still only nineteen, and already has a Belgium cap, the future looks super bright for the young man.
This summer feels like the time to strike for Lavia. Southampton have been relegated and that’s a level below the ex-City academy product. It’s why interest in him has heightened after only one season playing regular football.
Will United make their move? I wouldn’t bet against it, though beating out Arsenal may be tough as they can probably guarantee more minutes for Lavia from day one.
