Man United are looking likely to tie Marcus Rashford down to a new contract.
Last night, Marcus Rashford became the first Manchester United player to score a goal for England at Old Trafford since David Beckham in 2001.
The forward was United’s best source for goals during the 2022/23 season, though his contract status remains up in the air. Rashy has just one year left on his deal.
Well, yesterday, news started to filter through that a new deal between United and Rashford could be close.
This morning, that information has been backed up by the Manchester Evening News. According to the report, United are ‘increasingly hopeful’ of agreeing a new deal with the key man ‘sooner rather than later’. At which point, a formal announcement would be made, easing all our fears.
Rashford, 25, is attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain, just as he did last summer. No doubt many more clubs will start to take a liking towards the Englishman as time goes on.
The MEN believe this new deal is likely to be in excess of £300,000-a-week, which is obviously a huge chunk of money. However, if anyone deserves this kind of fee, it’s Rashford. It’s also United’s fault as they came to the negotiating table a little too late.
Rashford’s up-turn in form has directly coincided with the appointment of Ten Hag as manager. That is simply not a coincidence. The Dutchman has restored the confidence in his number ten, who scored a mightily impressive 30 goals across all competitions.
What’s crazy is that with more help around him, Rashford could still continue to develop and get even better. Hopefully, the deal is announced before pre-season begins.
