Man United goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, is being made a priority signing by Nottingham Forest.
Changes are afoot at Manchester United. New owners could be in place next season, while Erik ten Hag continues to overhaul the playing squad.
The goalkeeper position has been locked up by David de Gea for the last decade, though there’s now a real possibility that he leaves the club this summer.
Dean Henderson is another whose future remains up in the air, particularly after his scathing attack on United upon his loan exit to Nottingham Forest last season.
The Athletic (subscription required) have provided an update on Henderson’s future. They state that Forest are now pushing to sign Henderson on a permanent basis.
They’re so intent on bringing in Hendo, that they’ve made the signing of the United man a ‘priority’. However, the £25m valuation, coupled with £90k-a-week wage demands, could become a stumbling block.
Forest were impressed with Hendo in the first half of the season, before the Englishman picked up an injury which seriously disrupted the second half of the campaign.
We’ve all seen first-hand how good Henderson is. Not too long ago, he was challenging De Gea for regular starts under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. If not for his comments about United last summer, I genuinely believe he would’ve been under serious consideration for the number one spot at Old Trafford.
At this point, though, it seems as though Ten Hag has made his mind up on Hendo. Perhaps a clean break is exactly what’s required and if United can get in excess of £20m to let him leave, it would be pretty good business.
It would present a need to bring in two goalkeepers this summer, though.
