Man United are after a minimal fee in order to sell Eric Bailly permanently this summer.
Manchester United were excellent defensively in 2022/23. Lisandro Martinez seems to have changed the overall outlook of the back line at Old Trafford. Credit must go to Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff, too.
More changes in that area of the field are looking likely. Harry Maguire may leave the club this summer, while Eric Bailly is another the club are looking to move away from.
The centre-back has spent large portions of his United career out injured, which has led to the club losing faith in Bailly. As a result, he’s had to utilise the loan system to play his football.
Now, the Daily Mail claim that United want ‘just £2m’ in order to sell the forgotten 29-year-old permanently this summer.
Real Betis are showing an interest in the Ivory Coast international, who only played 17 games for Marseille during a loan over in France last term.
Bailly’s case is an intriguing one. His path has been not too dissimilar to Phil Jones’. Both talented players. Both have had their own injury issues which has majorly affected their once-promising careers.
It’s now down to a potential buying club to determine whether Bailly is worth the risk. In the modern-day game, £2m is a drop in the ocean for most top flights clubs. Bailly’s talent alone is probably worth more than that, though the fact remains, he’s unreliable.
If i have to hazard a guess, United will end up releasing Bailly for free upon the expiry of his contract, loaning him out in the mean time.
