Man United are still showing an interest in Romeo Lavia, though they’re not leading the chase.
Manchester United could look to bolster their midfield this summer, with the Red Devils possibly looking to get younger in that area.
Fred, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are all in the back-end of their careers, hence, a younger face could freshen things up.
Enter, Romeo Lavia.
United were linked with the Southampton man earlier this week. It’s an easy rumour to make given his excellent 2022/23 campaign, coupled with Southampton’s relegation.
Now, The Independent have provided an update on Lavia’s future. They name United as one of the sides that continue to ‘monitor movements’ of the 19-year-old midfielder, though they face competition.
Chelsea and Liverpool are both credited with an interest, while Arsenal are the club he is ‘most likely’ to join at this stage.
It’s stated that Southampton want at least £45m to let Lavia leave, only a year after he joined the club from Manchester City.
United have other priorities during this window, though they’re now reassessing their options due to the high price of a striker.
Lavia is viewed as one of those ‘precarious talents’ that could solve a team in one position for many years.
I was super impressed with the Belgian during the season. He looked right at home in a Premier League midfield, while still being so young. You can only imagine that he’ll continue to improve the more he’s exposed to regular football.
Southampton’s relegation probably means Lavia himself will push for a big-money move this summer, as he will not want to spend a season hidden away in the Championship.
As things stand, United are unlikely to move for Lavia. However, with Arsenal leading the way, they’d have to act quickly to get a deal done. Right now, I just do not see that happening.
