Man United have been in contact with Inter Milan about possibly signing Federico Dimarco.
Manchester United Football Club have been linked with players in a variety of positions this summer. With many holes in the squad to fill, it makes sense.
Ironically, the one area where the club feel set is left-back. This is what makes the links to Federico Dimarco all the more interesting. The Inter Milan man had an excellent season, culminating in a Champions League final defeat to Manchester City.
Now, it’s being claimed by The Independent that United ‘have spoken’ to the club about signing the 25-year-old full-back this summer. However, they’ll face competition from Real Madrid, who have also asked about the player.
It’s stated that Dimarco is viewed as one of Inter’s most ‘marketable assets’, with the club having to generate some funds through player sales due to missing out on next year’s Champions League.
As a result, United could sign the ‘burgeoning talent’ Dimarco for a ‘relatively little fee’.
To us here at Old Trafford Faithful, it’s interesting that left-back could be an option. It does beg the question whether Erik ten Hag views Luke Shaw as a centre-back predominantly.
Dimarco himself is quite versatile, which could also be another reason why United are considering a move to sign the man from Italy.
From a personal point of view, I’d much prefer to see United prioritise other areas over left-back. However, if they think Dimarco is this incredible talent, then it may make sense to move for him now while the price could be somewhat lower than his typical market value.
It all depends on what sort of budget United are working with. I’d imagine it’ll still be around the £100m mark before player sales.
