Man United are set to sell Zidane Iqbal for a minimal fee…
Manchester United Football Club are yet to make a signing this summer, with Erik ten Hag no doubt growing in frustration behind the scenes.
The feeling this summer is that United may have to sell before they buy in some positions. Not only to raise extra funds, but also clear some space in the squad.
Well, one man who we just assumed we’d see on pre-season tour was Zidane Iqbal. The young man impressed last summer, though faded out of the first-team mix during the season.
Now, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, United are set to sell the starlet for a minimal fee. Iqbal is off to FC Utrecht in the Netherlands.
Apparently, Utrecht are set to pay €1m (£850k) for Iqbal, while the medical is complete and a four-year contract is on the table. United have negotiated a ‘significant’ sell-on clause, should the midfielder be sold by Utrecht in future.
Honestly, this is just gutting. Iqbal was the shining light last summer and to hear that he’s now being sold is sad. I understand that not everyone can make it at United. However, this boy looked like he had all the tools in the world last summer.
I personally expected to see a loan move negotiated for Zidane, with the view to him coming back to the club next summer in an even better position.
The fact that the move came out of absolutely nowhere also adds to the shock. I guess it just speaks to Ten Hag’s ruthless side. He’s seemingly in win-now mode and not really in the mood to nurture young talents at this stage of the process.
