Man United are now in the hunt to sign Nicolo Barella from Inter Milan.
Manchester United Football Club are seemingly in the hunt for a midfielder this summer. The Red Devils have been linked with plenty of central players already. No doubt many more will follow over the next few weeks.
Today’s rumour comes from Italy, namely Gazzetta dello Sport‘s Tuesday print edition, per Sport Witness. They credit Man United with an interest in Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella.
The report claims that several Premier League sides are interested in the Italian. United are one of them, with the Old Trafford club viewed as a ‘far more attractive’ destination than Newcastle United.
United have now joined the race to sign the 26-year-old midfielder, with ‘interested phone calls’ made from the Red Devils.
In terms of asking price, Barella will not be sold for anything below £68m (€80m), despite the fact that the Serie A side may have to sell some players in order to raise some funds. They have no Champions League money coming in next season.
Barella is an incredible footballer. He looked class in the Champions League final against an excellent Manchester City side, which should tell you everything you need to know about his ability.
He wouldn’t come cheap, while beating out competition from Premier League rivals could also be pretty tough.
For me, Barella is a direct upgrade on United-linked Mason Mount. Sure, the latter may have Premier League experience, though the Italian is coming off a far better season, while I’d also suggest that his ceiling is way higher.
I’d be all for this move, though Inter will likely dig their heels in as they will not want to part with one of their best players.
