AS Roma are interested in signing Scott McTominay, with Jose Mourinho keen on a reunion.
Manchester United Football Club are undergoing major change – both on and off the field.
Erik ten Hag has managed many difficult situations well, while ownership remains up in the air. Now, he’s tasked with turning this squad into one that he truly believes in.
The addition of Mason Mount is quietly huge, though as a result, a midfielder may well have to leave. Well, Scott McTominay is attracting at least one potential suitor…
It’s Gianluca Di Marzio with the claim. He states that AS Roma are showing interest in signing the 26-year-old United star. Apparently, the Serie A club are in the market for a midfielder, with McTominay the ‘new idea’ to fill that void.
Roma’s manager, Jose Mourinho, is said to be a ‘great admirer’ of the reds player, who he has worked with previously at the AON Training Complex. The Scotland international made 39 appearances under the Portuguese coach, as he broke through into the first team.
The verdict
McTominay feels like the perfect Mourinho player. He’s tailor-made for that defence-first system due to his work rate, positional sense and ability to throw his weight around.
Whether the two clubs can agree on a fee is another matter entirely. Negotiating with United has been typically-tough over the years, largely due to the fact the squad is filled with average players on superstar wages. The reluctance of buying clubs to meet those weekly earnings often is the start and end of any proposed transfers away.
McTominay’s familiarity with Mourinho could help push this one through, but it all comes down to what the player wants.
