Man United are set to make a new ‘verbal’ offer for Andre Onana, following the rejection of an opening bid.
Manchester United’s move for Mason Mount is signed, sealed and delivered. The Old Trafford club can now move on towards other transfer targets.
The Red Devils now have to look at bringing in a striker and goalkeeper. Whether the budget will stretch to a top calibre player in both positions remains to be seen.
Recently, Andre Onana’s name has been mentioned in the media pretty significantly. The man from Cameroon enjoyed a stellar debut season with Inter Milan in the Serie A – though he may not be playing his football in Italy for too much longer…
It’s Fabrizio Romano providing the latest. He says that United will now proceed with a new ‘verbal bid’ to sign the 27-year-old.
Apparently, conversations with Inter will continue, after an opening bid worth under £40m total was rejected.
Furthermore, the player’s position is ‘clear’. He is ‘prepared to accept’ a Reds transfer if the two clubs can agree upon a fee.
At this stage, it seems like the transfer is moving in the right direction. Obviously, there’s still some discussion over transfer fee, though I’d assume that with some willingness from both sides, that should not be a problem.
Onana himself seems willing to make the move to Old Trafford and I cannot imagine personal terms becoming an issue for the man from Cameroon.
This, to me, is the most important move United will make this summer. Sure, a new striker would be lovely, but having a keeper who is comfortable with the ball at feet will offer this team far more possession. He’ll also bring a calmness to the table, while adding genuine control and command of a penalty area.
Hopefully, a deal can be done soon.
