The ongoing summer transfer window may see a couple of changes in the goalkeeping department at Bayern Munich. Things may move quickly when players report for pre-season training next week. Yann Sommer and Alexander Nubel are expected departures from the goalkeeping department.
Sommer is relaxed about his future at Bayern. The Swiss goalkeeper reportedly has a transfer agreement with Die Roten. With Manuel Neuer expected to be number one next season, Sommer will be allowed to leave Bayern if he wants to play regularly next season. Serie A could be one of the viable destinations for Sommer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter Milan has opened talks to sign Yann Sommer from Bayern. The Italian club is looking to sign Sommer as part of their strategy to replace Andre Onana. The Cameroon international is closing on a move to Manchester United.
Romano also confirms that Sommer does have an exit clause in his contract at Bayern. The Bavarian club will allow the Swiss goalkeeper to leave if the interested club pays whatever they paid to Borussia Monchengladbach in January. The record Bundesliga champions reportedly paid a fee close to €10 million during the winter transfer window.
Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca di Marzio has also reported that Inter Milan will look to sign Sommer when Onana ends up joining Manchester United. The Swiss international will have talks with Die Roten next week to get more clarity on his future.
Sommer will look to play regularly next season ahead of Euros 2024. He may look to push for a move if Die Roten cannot give him assurances over playing time. The 34-year-old goalkeeper will have several options due to his quality and experience. A move to Inter Milan will be perfect for him since the Italian club will play in the Champions League next season.
Meanwhile, Alexander Nubel will also leave Bayern this summer. After a successful two years on loan at Monaco, Nubel is expected to seal a permanent transfer away from Die Roten. Nubel doesn’t want to sit on the bench next season, so he is eager to leave Bavaria. The former Schalke goalkeeper will be at Sabner Strasse next week to start pre-season training.

Bayern will have to dip into the transfer market if Sommer and Nubel end up leaving the club. They are reportedly interested in Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili. Die Roten will look for a younger goalkeeper that will eventually succeed Neuer. The transfer fees accumulated from the sales of Nubel and Sommer will be invested in getting a deputy for Neuer. Sven Ulreich will be the number three goalkeeper in the squad next season.
