The pre-season for Bayern Munich begins on Thursday next week. The club chiefs are still working on getting the ideal squad ready for Thomas Tuchel. As things stand, Die Roten will have three new signings on the plane to Japan for the pre-season tour.
Konrad Laimer and Raphael Guerreiro have already completed their transfers to Bayern. Napoli’s Kim Min-jae reportedly completed medicals in South Korea this week. The Bavarian club is expected to activate his release clause worth €50 million sooner rather than later. The South Korean defender will replace Lucas Hernandez in the squad. The French defender is close to completing a move to Pairs Saint-Germain.
Bayern is currently focussing on signing a striker. Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane is the top target for Die Roten. They already had one bid rejected for the English forward. Rekordmeister is expected to make an improved bid after reaching an agreement on personal terms with Kane.
Along with signing a forward, Bayern is also going to look for another midfielder in this window. The Bavarian club wants to sign a robust number six, which will allow Joshua Kimmich to play in an advanced midfield position. West Ham United’s Declan Rice was the top target for Die Roten in this position, but he is closing on a move to Arsenal for £105 million.
It does look like Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez is back on Die Roten’s radar for the number six role. According to SportBild’s Christian Falk, Alvarez remains on Bayern’s shortlist for strengthening the midfield department. The Mexican midfielder was expected to join Borussia Dortmund, but the transfer has not materialized yet.
Alvarez will not be an expensive signing since Ajax will reportedly look to get €35-40 million for him. The 25-year-old midfielder ticks most of the boxes for a defensive midfielder that Die Roten wants to sign this summer. He has primarily played in the number six position at Ajax. Alvarez can also slot in central defense if needed.
It remains to be seen whether Bayern’s interest in Alvarez is concrete. They decided against making a bid for him early in the window. If they end up signing the Mexican midfielder, it is likely to take place late in the summer.

Bayern has also been linked with Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat and Spurs’ Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg. The Moroccan midfielder is attracting interest from several clubs, while Hojbjerg is reportedly a transfer target for Atletico Madrid. Die Roten will have to soon make a decision on their target for the defensive midfield position or they risk ending the summer without signing one.
