Man United are among the clubs showing an interest in signing Joao Felix.
Manchester United have already made one attacking midfielder addition this summer, with Mason Mount signed by Erik ten Hag.
However, the gaffer seemingly wants to add further attacking quality to his squad. Be it in the form of an out-and-out striker, or another attacking midfielder.
Several names have been linked with filling that void. Over the last 24 hours, a new face has been thrown into the mix; Joao Felix.
It’s ABC (Wednesday print edition) with the story, with thanks to Sport Witness for the translation. According to their report, United are among the clubs who are in the picture to sign the 23-year-old attacker, who currently plies his trade for Atletico Madrid.
The Red Devils are not the only club keen on signing Felix, who spent the second half of last season at Chelsea. Both Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also credited with an interest.
The report claims that Felix has asked his agent, Jorge Mendes, to find the man from Portugal a new club, with the player ‘seduced’ by a Premier League transfer.
Felix’s first demand is a club in the Champions League, so that rules out Villa straight away. It then becomes a straight fight between United and Newcastle, assuming both would be interested enough to make an official bid.
According to ABC, the three clubs have all ‘rang’ about Felix, though those conversations appear to be with the camp of the player, rather than Atletico Madrid themselves.
It all depends just how far Manchester United’s budget will stretch. Felix displayed glimpses of his talent for Chelsea last season, though he will not come cheaply. Can United really afford to splash that kind of money on a luxury rather than a need?
