Man United need to act quickly to sign Andre Onana.
Manchester United require a new number one goalkeeper. There’s no getting away from that fact. The Red Devils allowed David de Gea to walk way on a free transfer. He needs to be replaced with genuine quality.
Andre Onana has been heavily linked with filling that void. Albeit a move for the man from Cameroon will not come easily – or cheaply.
Inter only signed the shot-stopper last summer. He had himself an excellent season, hence, the roughly £50m price tag placed upon his head.
Reliable journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio, has provided the latest information on Onana.
He claims that the next 24 hours are ‘decisive’ for United’s move to sign the 27-year-old. Apparently, Inter are ready to keep the player if the offer does not arrive.
Pre-season starts today for the Serie A club. Presumably, they want to know where they stand in the goalkeeper department sooner rather than later.
Although Inter needs to generate funds due to their lack of Champions League football, that doesn’t necessarily mean Onana is the only option. They’ll have other players who they could move on to raise that money.
The crucial thing for United is to now offer the asking price and get a fee agreed. Inter are not messing around. They’ll come a point where the Serie A side will just refuse to negotiate, assuming that Onana will remain with them for at least another campaign. At that stage, I’m not sure where United will look as they’ve spent so much time focused on Onana.
For what it’s worth, I do reckon a deal will be reached. Hopefully, we hear something concrete before the weekend.
