Everton want to sign Anthony Elanga from Man United this summer.
Manchester United will have to generate some funds by selling players during this window, in order to ensure that Erik ten Hag is delivered all the signings he requires.
It has been pretty tough going on the selling front over the last few years. Largely, it’s United making a rod for their own backs by overpaying players in terms of weekly wages.
One man who is seemingly attracting interest is Anthony Elanga. The young Swede, who was a regular under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, fell out of favour when Ten Hag took charge.
Now, Everton are keen on signing the United youngster, with the Reds making the forward available for transfer in a £15-20m deal. That’s according to the BBC.
Everton narrowly avoided relegation last season, with the Liverpool outfit now looking to strengthen their playing squad. There’s no doubt that Elanga would be given regular minutes at Goodison Park, should the deal happen.
The Toffees came close to signing Elanga on loan in January, though that deal did fall through. There’s also no guarantees that Everton would be willing to meet United’s valuation of the Swede.
Right now, I struggle to see how Elanga would play regularly here in Manchester, so a straight up sale feels like the best move for all parties. If United can get close to that £15-20m fee, it’d be a great piece of business that would top up the transfer kitty.
Elanga wasn’t used during the Leeds United game on Wednesday, which indicates that he’s firmly out of the mind of the manager right now. Either that, or it was a tactical decision to try and force through his exit from the Theatre of Dreams.
