Man United’s latest player-plus-cash offer for Rasmus Hojlund has been rejected by Atalanta.
Anthony Martial is talented, though there’s now a feeling that he cannot be relied upon. The Frenchman spent far too much time out injured last summer, unable to justify his regular minutes.
Now, Erik ten Hag is looking to fill that void. Young forward Rasmus Hojlund is the number one option at this point in time, though he will not come cheaply.
The Athletic (subscription required) have provided the latest information on that front. However, it’s bad news for United. They say that a player-plus-cash offer for the striker has been turned down for Atalanta, who want an £85m, pure cash fee.
United, understandably, believe that fee to be excessive. Hence, they’re trying to find some middle ground and lower the cash cost by offering players as part of the deal.
The problem is that it seems as if Atalanta aren’t keen enough on the players United have placed on the table. Either that, or they simply cannot afford to meet their wage demands – which is nothing new given United’s insistence on overpaying for squad players.
As things stand, United are seemingly pretty far off on agreeing to terms to sign Hojlund. I do not see Atalanta budging on their asking price, while I also don’t believe United will meet the extortionate fee placed upon the head of the Dane.
It may well come down to player sales. United need to generate funds before they can afford to sign a striker during this window. Can Ten Hag muster up just enough money to bring Hojlund in? I’m honestly not convinced.
