Alex Telles and Eric Bailly did not report for pre-season training, with the club trying to sell the pair.
Manchester United Football Club are moving in a positive direction under Erik ten Hag, with the gaffer still making adjustments to the squad.
The bulk of players returned to pre-season training yesterday following their extended holidays due to their participation at international level.
However, a couple of familiar faces were not involved. Neither Eric Bailly nor Alex Telles reported back, with the Manchester Evening News confirming that story, amid the Reds’ plans to sell the pair.
Both players were out on loan last season. Telles spent the term with Sevilla, while Bailly was with Marseille.
Neither player is expected to be included in United’s squad for the United States tour which starts next week. The players also have just one year left on their contracts.
Despite the fact that Bailly and Telles both have one-year extension options within their terms, it’s expected those will not be triggered, regardless of what happens this summer.
The club wouldn’t mind protecting their asset, trying to increase the transfer value upon their players. However, Ten Hag seems intent on getting rid of the duo sooner rather than later.
In an ideal world, both Telles and Bailly will be sold this summer. However, that’s easier said than done. The pair are on pretty high wages and moving on from these guys this summer will be far easier said than done.
There’s a high probability that United will likely be forced into subsidising player wages, if they manage to find buyers during this window.
I highly doubt they’ll be sufficient interest in either Telles or Bailly, meaning there’s a good chance both will end up out on loan again this season.
