Man United have landed their man in Andre Onana.
Manchester United Football Club have made no secret of the fact that a new number one goalkeeper has been atop their wishlist for several weeks.
With David de Gea leaving, the bargaining power was always going to be with the eventual selling club. However, to their credit, United have done wonderfully here.
According to talkSPORT, among others, United have agreed a £47m fee to sign 27-year-old goalkeeper, Andre Onana.
The player is now set for a United medical, with Onana expected to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford. Personal terms on that deal have already been agreed, so it’s now just about sorting out a structure for the payments to Inter Milan. Those terms are expected to be finalised today.
The gaffer identified Onana as his ‘primary transfer target’ following the exit of the Spaniard De Gea. Fair play to the club, who have gone out there and landed their man for an excellent price.
Onana was among the best goalkeepers in the world last season, so I don’t think the importance of this move can be understated.
The man from Cameroon is so comfortable with the ball at feet, which is precisely what Ten Hag needs to take this side to the next level.
The fact that Ten Hag is already familiar with Onana’s game is another tick in the box, too. It should help the transition become a little easier for both Onana, and his new teammates.
Hopefully, a deal is signed and sealed before the reds jet off to the United States for the main part of their pre-season tour. It’s absolutely vital that Onana gets comfortable within that dressing room before the serious stuff starts next month.
