Manchester City paid tribute to their former midfielder, who played 436 matches for the club, stating the 37-year-old will be remembered as ‘one of the greatest players in City’s history.’
‘Silva joined City in 2010 and spent 10 years at the Etihad Stadium helping us to a decade of success.
‘The Spaniard won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five League Cups during his time in Manchester.
‘He left City for Sociedad in 2020 and sadly his final match was behind closed doors during the Covid-19 pandemic meaning the fans were unable to say a heartfelt goodbye to their hero.
‘But the Club celebrated his legendary contribution by building a statue outside the Etihad – along with Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany.
‘Everyone at Manchester City would like to wish David all the best in his retirement and to thank him once more for the incredible contribution he made to our football club during his ten years here.’
