Turkish side Fenerbahce are looking to sign Fred from Man United, with their official offer now in.
Manchester United’s squad was always going to have a different look going into 2023/24. Erik ten Hag is conducting some good work on the transfer front, though there’s still plenty of squad players that need moving on.
The Old Trafford side are trying to change their midfielders in particular. The likes of Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek could all be available for purchase if the right offer comes in. Moving them on is proving to be difficult due to their excessive wages.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest information on Fred. He took to Twitter to confirm that Turkish side, Fenerbahce, have ‘submitted an official bid’ to United to sign the player during this window.
That deal is said to be a total package worth around £13m (€15m). Negotiations are ongoing on both the club and player side, with Fenerbahce hopeful of getting the deal done ‘soon’.
The man from Brazil has had a mixed time of things in Manchester. The inconsistency has plagued his game on a match-by-match basis, which has proven to be frustrating at times.
He’s either good or awful. There has been no middle ground whatsoever.
At this stage in his career, it feels somewhat clear that Ten Hag wants to move in a different direction and get younger at this position. If a Fred sale means more minutes for Kobbie Mainoo, or someone like Sofyan Amrabat brought in, then I’m all for it.
A move to Turkey provides Fred with a good chance at winning silverware, for a Fenerbahce side who are looking to get back among the top clubs in that country.
