Man United will be without several players for their season opener against Wolves on Monday Night Football.
Well. Here we go again. Manchester United host Wolverhampton Wanderers in their season opener on Monday evening, with the Red Devils looking to hit the ground running and prove that they can be genuine contenders.
It feels like United are in a far better place with Erik ten Hag in charge, though for the Dutchman, the work has only just begun. Transfers have been made. More are needed. Preferably this summer.
The talk is now over. It’s time to see what our lads are made of this time around. I’m fully expecting to see some improvements, though whether it’ll be enough to bridge the cap is another matter entirely.
Ahead of the Wolves game, Ten Hag has confirmed some pretty bad injury news, admitting that three players will be out for ‘some time’ with injury. Tyrell Malacia, Amad and Kobbie Mainoo will all be missing for the foreseeable future.
On top of that, United will be without Dean Henderson and Rasmus Hojlund for this encounter. Their injuries are short-term, which is good news. The Reds will also be without Tom Heaton for this one.
Check out what Erik ten Hag had to say in full here:
“Malacia’s will take some time, the same as Amad and Kobbie, they are really impact injuries,” Ten Hag said to the media, including ManUtd.com.
“All the others, like Henderson and Hojlund, are quite short but it will take a few weeks.”
Obviously, it’s tougher without these players available. Though most of them are fringe players or young up-and-comers. It affects Ten Hag’s depth rather than his regular starting line-up. That’s still less than ideal and we all would prefer these players to be available.
The one that hurts the most is no Hojlund. We’re all super keen to see him in action, though that debut is going to be delayed by at least a couple more weeks. I’d much prefer to see him given the time he needs, rather than being rushed into action.
Get well soon, gents.
