Man United are seriously considering making a move to sign Everton’s Amadou Onana.
Manchester United have made some astute signings this summer. All of them will move the club in the right direction. However, there’s still work to be done in the transfer market during this current window.
The Old Trafford side are still after bolstering their options in the middle of the park. Several names have been linked. Perhaps that move is now the top priority due to the imminent departure of Fred to Fenerbahce.
Sofyan Amrabat appears to be among the top options for Ten Hag, who is keen on reuniting with the man from Morocco.
However, recently, Amadou Onana’s name has been thrown into the mix. Apparently, internal ‘discussions’ were held about possibly moving to bring in the Everton man.
Now, the Daily Mail have provided an update on that potential move. According to their sources, United are ‘assessing a move to sign the 21-year-old midfielder, who was a standout player during a poor season for Everton in 2022/23.
The Belgium international played 33 games for the Goodison Park club, helping his side to safety. Onana looked mightily impressive in the games against United. I remember him putting in a top performance at Goodison Park in particular.
There is no doubt that this would be a top signing for United if the club could pull it off, though I do worry whether the club have the funds there so splash such cash on Onana. Everton will not let him leave, cheaply, to a Premier League rival.
As much as I’d like to see this move happen, you get the impression that a deal to bring in Amrabat is far more likely.
