Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard will ‘fight’ to secure a transfer to Man United this summer.
Manchester United still have to make some transfer deals before the close of play at the end of August. Next up, is change in both midfield and defence. Fred has left. Harry Maguire is set to follow suit.
Talk is somewhat quiet on potential midfield replacements right now, though rumours linking Benjamin Pavard with a potential Old Trafford move are starting to ramp up.
The man who currently plays his football for Bayern Munich is struggling for any sort of consistency over in Germany. Hence, he wants a change of scenery.
It’s Kaveh Solhekol who provides the latest update on that front. He took to Twitter to confirm that the 27-year-old will ‘fight as hard as possible’ to secure a United transfer this summer.
Apparently, talks are ongoing between the clubs, though they’re ‘far apart’ in valuation. Solhekol believes the ‘fair price’ stands at €30m (£26m). A deal will only happen if the club can sell Maguire.
Again, this just reiterates the fact that United will have to sell before they can buy. Ten Hag isn’t working on an unlimited budget right now and the Reds will have to move some players on before they’ll give the gaffer extra funds to spend on the squad.
That said, Pavard feels like a direct upgrade on Maguire, even with the Frenchman’s dodgy injury history and lack of minutes. The Englishman has been pretty disastrous over the last couple of seasons, so I have to admit the bar is set somewhat low.
If United can get £30m for Maguire, that should cover the fee for Pavard with a little chunk of change left over. All in all, that would feel like some decent business.
