Brandon Williams will spend the 2023/24 season in the Championship, with Ipswich Town.
Manchester United continue to change things up within their dressing room. Erik ten Hag is looking to be as ruthless as possible, though that’s easier said than done with the current system.
The Reds have too many players on massive wages. It makes it difficult to move them on. Donny van de Beek, Eric Bailly, Harry Maguire are the main players in that category.
Another footballer who finds himself out of favour in Manchester is Brandon Williams. He was a favourite of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s, though it has been tough for the Englishman to find any consistency.
Now, Williams’ exit has been confirmed. It’s a loan deal for the left-back, who’ll be playing for Championship side Ipswich Town.
A Kieran McKenna reunion is the main factor behind this deal, with Williams hoping to play regular football in order to further his career.
Williams has just a year left on his current United deal, meaning he will be a free agent at the end of this season. If it does go well at Ipswich Town, there’s a chance the Reds will trigger a one-year extension clause, in order to get some sort of transfer fee back for him.
At this point, I figured a clean break would be best for all involved. However, his wages are probably too high for Ipswich Town. Hence, a loan, with United covering some of that weekly salary, feels like what’s happening here.
Hopefully, Williams becomes a week-in-week-out starter for Ipswich Town pretty early on, giving him the confidence he needs to get his career back on track.
