Midfielder Hannibal may well be involved in the matchday squad this weekend, for Man United vs Forest.
Manchester United have been pretty poor to start the season. The Red Devils haven’t looked anywhere near as good as you’d expect. It’ll be interesting to see what happens this weekend.
The injuries continue to mount up for Erik ten Hag, with Mason Mount the latest to go down. He’s out for at least another month. However, that does present opportunity for someone to step in and take his place.
In this case, it’s Hannibal Mejbri who could benefit. According to the Manchester Evening News, the 20-year-old midfielder is ‘in contention’ to make the matchday squad vs Forest this weekend.
It’s added that United are yet to make a decision on Hannibal’s future for the upcoming season. Borussia Dortmund made their interest known, with the Tunisia international enjoying himself in pre-season.
Hannibal’s future is said to be dependent on whether other players in his position, such as Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay, are sold.
Again, you’d imagine the injury to Mount means United are now more likely than ever to keep the likes of McTominay around.
I was impressed with Hannibal in pre-season. He looks calmer and more assured than he did the last time he was exposed to first-team football. There’s a quality player in there. He just needs the games.
Regardless of whether he’s on the bench this weekend, I’d still assume that Hannibal will leave on loan. He was good for Birmingham City last season. I’d like to see him stay in the Premier League if at all possible. Whether or not he’ll attract that kind of interest remains to be seen.
