Alvaro Fernandez is looking likely to head to Spanish side Granada during this summer transfer window, on a season-long loan.
Manchester United have major issues at the left-back position. Luke Shaw is out for the foreseeable future, while Tyrell Malacia remains injured for another few weeks at least.
Diogo Dalot played in that position over the weekend. While the word on the street suggests that Erik ten Hag could look to bring in another left-back on loan.
All-in-all, that spells bad news for Alvaro Fernandez. The young Spaniard looked sharp while playing for Preston North End last season. He also enjoyed himself in pre-season.
Sadly, the gaffer doesn’t think he’s ready for major first-team minutes, otherwise, he would have started against Forest on Saturday. Now, like clockwork, a short-term move away is being talked up for Fernandez.
It’s Canal Rojiblanco with the claim, with thanks to The Peoples Person for the translation. According to the report, a loan move for the United star is now expected to ‘accelerate’.
Spanish side Granada are looking to bring in Fernandez, with the 20-year-old set to leave for the 2023/24 season.
Fernandez is absolutely at that stage in his career where regular football is an absolute must. He’d get that chance for Granada, while a move back to his homeland is a place where he’ll feel comfortable.
The verdict
I still cannot help but feel United are missing a trick by not throwing him in there and seeing what he’s made of before bringing in someone like Marc Cucurella. I’d honestly much prefer to see United place their faith in Fernandez, but Ten Hag has made it clear he’s not going to give out chances to youngsters. They have to earn them.
