Man United have a new back-up goalkeeper in the form of Altay Bayindir.
Manchester United’s squad is now looking pretty different to how it did a week ago. Erik ten Hag made four signings on deadline day, with the Red Devils finally delivering some new additions.
One of the necessary ones was Altay Bayindir. The Turk has been brought in as the new back-up goalkeeper, in place of Dean Henderson, who signed for Crystal Palace on a permanent deal.
Bayindir joins from Fenerbache, becoming the first man from Turkey to represent the Old Trafford club. The 25-year-old does come in with plenty of promise, having enjoyed himself for one of Turkey’s big clubs before making this switch.
Upon signing, Altay Bayindir said:
“It is a huge honour to join Manchester United and become the first Turkish player to represent this incredible club.
“I have a passion for success, and I will give everything to help this special group of players to achieve our ambitions.
“I cannot wait to start working with such an experienced goalkeeping unit. We will support each other and drive high standards every day so that each of us is ready to perform whenever called upon.”
The main role of a back-up keeper is to fit seamlessly into the system. Bayindir feels like a good stylistic fit due to his ability to pass out from the back.
He’s not going to be expected to start week-in-week-out, rather, come in and do a job as and when required. We may see him heavily feature in January if Andre Onana does indeed head to the African Cup of Nations. You’d also expect Bayindir to play in the Carabao Cup games.
This was a cheap signing with plenty of upside. I really do believe Bayindir will be able to come in and do a stellar job.
