Lisandro Martinez may actually be injured and dealing with some pain, despite reports suggesting the contrary.
Manchester United Football Club are struggling in a variety of aspects right now. The Red Devils have won two from four, while not looking all that convincing for the most part. They have Jadon Sancho drama to deal with, while also contending with mega injuries all over the field…
Those treatment table woes continued against Arsenal over the weekend. Erik ten Hag would lose both Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez through illness and injury respectively.
Early indications suggested Licha’s problem wasn’t as bad as first feared and that he’d head to Argentina international duty without anything to worry about. However, that may not be the case.
It’s TyC Sports (via Sport Witness) with the latest update on Martinez’s fitness. They say it’s far from a foregone conclusion that the centre-back will be ready to play for his country over the next week or so.
Instead, it’s written that the key United star is ‘in pain’, with the knock taking place on his right foot – the injury he suffered with last season.
As of yet, there’s no official report from the doctors, while the player ‘will be evaluated’ by national team staff before a prognosis is made.
With Martinez possibly not ready to play, Argentina have called up another centre-back just in case…
The verdict
Suddenly, I’m worried again. United are already without Raphael Varane, while who knows how serious Lindelof’s injury is. That could genuinely mean the Reds could take on Brighton with Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire as the starting centre-backs. Against an excellent Brighton attack, this could be a major issue.
