Jadon Sancho may have had the chance to head to Chelsea this summer, though they weren’t keen on his mindset and attitude.
It feels like Manchester United turn one corner, putting problems behind them, only to encounter another one directly head on.
The latest issue swirling is surrounding Jadon Sancho. The Englishman and Erik ten Hag have had a very public argument over the last few days, following his omission from the squad for the Arsenal game. The player could find himself in hot water.
This isn’t the first time Sancho has had off-field issues. Last Christmas, Ten Hag allowed Sancho to walk away altogether for a couple of months, in order to take some personal time and take a break from football.
Now, six months later, Ten Hag chose to go down a different path. He’d publicly state that Sancho wasn’t showing enough in training. Sancho would respond and claim he is being turned into a scapegoat.
According to the Daily Mail, United were prepared to listen to offers for Sancho this summer. Around £45m would have been enough to prise him away from Old Trafford, though no offer arrived.
Chelsea came the closest, though they turned down the chance to sign the United star as they were ‘concerned about his mindset’. Honestly, that’s a damning statement. They’d move for Cole Palmer instead.
Don’t forget that Gareth Southgate continues to keep Sancho out of the England fold, too, with Three Lions coaching staff highlighting the player’s sulking when he’s not selected as a problem. Apparently, they’ve spoken to him about that attitude issue, though seemingly, nothing has changed.
Southgate has also had issues with Sancho’s training levels in the past. Surely two managers cannot be wrong?
Another issue highlighted by the Daily Mail is Sancho’s timekeeping. It was a recurring problem for him over at Borussia Dortmund, while he also was fined when playing for the England U19s for the same offence.
Sadly, it just looks like Sancho isn’t as committed as required. Particularly to make it at the highest level. Again, this is another damning indictment on United’s recruitment as Sancho certainly wasn’t cheap.
