Antony will not represent Brazil over the coming fortnight after the was dropped.
Manchester United have recently come out of the other side of one abuse case, with Mason Greenwood now playing his football for Getafe.
No less than a week later, they’re dealing with another off-field abuse incident. This time it’s Antony in question.
The BBC have now confirmed that the winger has been dropped by Brazil for international duty over the next fortnight, following allegations that were made by a former partner.
Both police in Manchester and Sao Paulo are investigating the claims at this moment in time.
Antony has released a statement strongly denying the claims, while the BBC has approached United for comment. The club have nothing further to add at this time.
Honestly, I’ve no idea what’s going on anymore. Just as was the case with the Greenwood issue, we will say very little on the matter until the investigations are completed. This is a blog that is built upon opinion, though for obvious reasons, we will not be delving into that area while a legal case is ongoing.
The fact that Antony has now been dropped from international duty shows that the story has gone global. The national team do not want to be answering questions about that over the next fortnight, while they have a duty of care to not only Antony, Brazil as a country, and the woman involved.
All we can ask for is a swift resolution. Either way. The longer this drags on, the worse it becomes for absolutely everyone involved. No doubt it’s tough on the mental side of things for both Antony and his partner and I really do hope they’re both getting the help they need at this point in time.
