Man United are set to have Raphael Varane available for selection this weekend.
Manchester United’s injury issues are well documented. The Red Devils have been losing players left, right and centre. The latest big casualty? Casemiro. He will be missing for at least the next few weeks.
However, there has been some good news on that front. Raphael Varane, who was benched for the derby and then absent in midweek, is now fighting fit and good to go.
During his pre-match press conference, Erik ten Hag confirmed that the United player is now ‘ready to play’ after missing the midweek match. The gaffer confirmed the key man ‘will be travelling’ for the Fulham game tomorrow lunchtime.
Check out what Erik ten Hag said on the matter here:
“Varane is ready to play,” Ten Hag told media, including ManUtd.com. “He will be travelling with the squad.”
I have to be honest, I was sceptical about the Varane ‘illness’. I assumed that after being dropped for the derby, the Frenchman wasn’t best-pleased about his position in the squad. As a result, he missed the Newcastle game after a managerial fallout.
Well, either the pair have gotten over their problems, or, it was nothing and Rapha was actually just dealing with an illness.
Either way, Varane is going to be back fit for the game tomorrow which is a big lift. The Frenchman is easily one of the best defenders at the club and we play better when he is in the team.
In terms of his partner, I’d imagine it’ll either be Harry Maguire or Jonny Evans. If Ten Hag truly wants a left and right-footer back there, it will be the latter. If the Dutchman wants to play his best team, it’ll be the former. Victor Lindelof is ill. More on that later…
