Man United are looking at Lyon attacker, Rayan Cherki, ahead of a possible 2024 transfer.
Manchester United’s squad is starting to take shape under Erik ten Hag, though if you’ve watched the Reds at all this season, you’ll know there is still much work ahead.
Further signings are needed, despite the fact that money is tight under the current Glazer regime. Will deals be done in January? It’s unlikely, meaning the view of the manager is already firmly fixated on next summer.
Chance creation has been a major problem. Hence, it makes sense to see the Old Trafford club linked with a move to sign a new chance creator in the form of Rayan Cherki.
It’s Football Insider with the scoop. They claim that United are ‘keeping tabs’ on the 20-year-old attacker, who currently plays for his hometown club, Lyon.
United, along with Newcastle, have been deemed ‘long-term admirers’ of the player, ahead of a potential 2024 move.
Cherki is struggling in Ligue 1, playing for a Lyon side that is sitting in last place in the table right now. He’s also out of contract in 2025, meaning he could be available for a price that is significantly less than his typical lower market value – assuming he doesn’t put pen on paper.
The talented attacker already has amassed over 100 professional appearances to his name, contributing 14 goals and 17 assists for Lyon so far. He’s also a France U21 regular.
Cherki has the ability. There’s no getting away from that. If he’s available at the right price, it could be an astute piece of business. However, beating out competition from Newcastle United may prove to be tough, particularly as the two clubs are trending in opposite directions right now.
